Lautoka resident Ropate Ralogilala has described as tragic the untimely death of his only brother, Rupeni Talakuli.

Mr Talakuli, 44, a crane operator died at the Lautoka Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit on Monday after a crane boom allegedly fell on him at his job site on Thursday last week.

Mr Ralogilala says the death of his only brother left a vacuum in his life.

“These past few days have been quite hard on me and the family because we were still trying to come to terms with his death,” he said.

“There are only two of us and we have always done things together and this is what I will miss so much.

“He (Rupeni) had just treated my children to shopping two weeks ago and he is gone this week.”

Despite being a quiet man, the Rakiraki man was known among his relatives and colleagues for his loveable spirit and gifted soul.

“He never responded to any of my calls lying in hospital and it hurts me a lot that he had to die this way, he was so close to my children.”

The post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday. He was laid to rest at his village in Rakiraki yesterday.
